The ArchTools Pro Education Center
Welcome to the ArchTools Pro Education Center. We believe that providing premium digital assets is only half the equation; empowering you with the knowledge to use them masterfully is the other.
Whether you are transitioning from traditional CAD software to a mobile iPad workflow, or you are an established digital artist looking to refine your architectural rendering techniques, this hub is designed to elevate your skills.
1. Setting Up Your Digital Drafting Table
Before you draw your first line, setting up your Procreate canvas correctly is critical for professional architectural and interior design work.
Canvas Size and DPI (Resolution)
For architectural drawings, precision and print quality are paramount.
- Standard Drafting: Always start with a high-resolution canvas. We recommend a minimum of 300 DPI (Dots Per Inch) for any project that might be printed or presented to a client.
- Canvas Dimensions: Utilize standard architectural paper sizes when creating your canvas in Procreate (e.g., ARCH C: 18" x 24", or ARCH D: 24" x 36"). This ensures your Layout Essentials and Title Blocks scale accurately.
The Power of the Grid
Procreate’s native Drawing Guides are essential for architectural work.
- Tap the Wrench Icon (Actions) > Canvas > toggle on Drawing Guide > tap Edit Drawing Guide.
- 2D Grid: Perfect for floor plans and elevation drafting. Adjust the grid size to represent your real-world scale (e.g., setting one grid square to equal 1 foot or 1 meter).
- Isometric & Perspective: Utilize these guides when transforming your 2D floor plans into 3D interior visualizations. Our architectural Brush Library works in tandem with Procreate’s "Assisted Drawing" feature to automatically snap your lines to these grids perfectly.
2. Mastering Your ArchTools Pro Digital Assets
Here is how to get the most out of the specific toolkits you have purchased from NOVUSTRA LLC.
Utilizing the Architectural Brush Library
Our brushes are meticulously engineered for specific drafting tasks.
- Drafting Pens: Use these for hard, precise linework. They are calibrated for consistent weight, mimicking traditional technical pens.
- Marker & Watercolor Brushes: Use these on a separate layer beneath your linework to add depth, shadows, and conceptual lighting to your interior renderings.
- Pro Tip: Adjust the "StreamLine" or "Stabilization" settings within the brush menu if you need help drawing perfectly smooth, sweeping lines for custom furniture concepts.
Applying Seamless Textures
Applying realistic materials (wood grain, concrete, marble) brings your elevations and floor plans to life.
- Import the texture from your ArchTools Pro library onto your canvas.
- Ensure the texture is on a layer above the shape or floor area you want to fill.
- Tap the texture layer and select Clipping Mask. The texture will now perfectly conform to the shape of the layer beneath it.
- Experiment with Blend Modes (such as Multiply or Overlay) and adjust the layer opacity to make the texture blend naturally with your shadows and highlights.
Working with Interior Assets & Floor Plan Stamps
Our pre-drawn furniture blocks and interior stamps drastically reduce your drafting time.
- Scaling: When placing a sofa or a kitchen island stamp, always reference your underlying 2D grid to ensure the furniture is scaled correctly to the room.
- Layer Management: Keep your stamps organized. Create a "Furniture Layer," a "Plumbing Layer," and an "Electrical Layer." This allows you to easily toggle elements on and off when presenting different conceptual phases to your clients.
Executing Layout Essentials
A professional presentation is what sells a design.
- Import our pre-formatted Title Blocks onto the topmost layer of your project.
- Use Procreate’s text tool to fill in the project name, client details, scale, and date.
- When exporting the final design for a client, always export as a PDF or a high-quality PNG to preserve the crispness of the linework and text.
3. Best Practices for a Professional Workflow
- Non-Destructive Editing: Never draw your shadows, textures, and linework on the same layer. Always separate your elements. If a client asks to change the color of a rug, you should only have to adjust one specific layer, not erase and redraw the entire room.
-
Cloud Backups: Architectural files can become large. Regularly export your
.procreateworking files to iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox. This ensures your layers, time-lapse videos, and client work are safe if anything happens to your iPad. - Stay Updated: Both iOS and the Procreate app update frequently. Always keep your software up to date to ensure maximum compatibility and performance with your ArchTools Pro assets.
